Transport Workers Union Local 514 Breaking Ground On New Facility

TULSA, OK (April 6, 2005) - - The Transport Workers Union Local 514, representing the men and women who work for American Airlines in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, El Paso, Texas, San Antonio, Texas, and Memphis, Tennessee, is solidifying its base of operations in Tulsa with a new facility. The official ground breaking for the new TWU Local 514 headquarters will take place tomorrow, Thursday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m at 11929 East Pine Street in Tulsa, OK.

Tulsa Mayor Bill LaFortune, Oklahoma State Secretary of Commerce and Executive Director Kathy Taylor, and Jim Curry, President of the Oklahoma State AFL-CIO will be in attendance, in addition to Local 514 President, Dennis Burchette.

"Our investment in this new facility is a commitment to our members and to the long term security of their work lives." said Dennis Burchette, Local 514 President. "It is also a commitment to the Tulsa community who graciously embraced Vision 2025 to help keep American Airlines jobs in Tulsa."

Plans call for design and construction of a new administration building and renovation of the existing building. The administration building will contain approximately 8,100 square feet of new office space. The existing 6,000 square foot building will be converted into a new meeting hall.

The design-build project is utilizing the services of Edmond, Oklahoma architect kerr 3 design group, inc. and general contractor kerr 3 construction group, LLC. kerr 3 design group, inc. has created an eye catching design for both buildings that will feature a dramatic appearance, including an airplane wing inspired entry canopy that conveys the involvement of the TWU Local 514 in the airline industry.

"The project will cost around $2.3 million and all of that money will stay in Oklahoma. We will be using Oklahoma workers, exclusively", said Burchette.

Local 514 is part of the Air Transport Division of the Transport Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO. The local is headquartered in Tulsa where it has represented American Airlines mechanics and related workers for more than 50 years. Today, Local 514 has more than 6,000 members. Most of them work in Tulsa. Others work at the American Airlines' facilities in El Paso Texas, San Antonio Texas and Memphis, Tennessee.
